TITLE: California, Brazil, Guatemala and Nepal: Using Mathematical Modeling to describe the Ethnomathematics in Diverse Environments

ABSTRACT: In this talk, Professor Orey will share his experience in Guatemala and Brazil with ethnomathematics. His work uses aspects of mathematical modeling to describe the mathematical practices as distinct as the activities found in the diversity of algorithms brought to Sacramento by recently arrived immigrants, Mayan mat patterns in Guatemalan weaving patterns and sculpture, and explorations in baroque architecture of Ouro Preto Brazil. His work has allowed him to be invited to spend six weeks at Katmandu University working with the ethnomathematics research group.

Went for a walk after I got here… the flowers are amazing(see pink dogwood on Brazee street) now why was it I moved… oh, yeah… I forgot… its raining… this is still an amazing city.
