Increasing my carbon signature...

Nice day for a fire... rainy, cool...

I came home from campus and said to myself, "self, lets build a fire". So cleaned out the fireplace, and took it for a test drive. So far no flue fire...

Since the temperature maximum here on the Ponderosa today was a whopping 58... the fire is kinda nice...

Its nice to save some of the things I trimmed all year for a fire in the fireplace once in a while...

Life is good.

Happy Vijaya Dashami!

On disadvantage about learning about a new country, is receiving greetings for holidays... Laxman, a student in my Kathmandu University course I helped teach last summer sent me the following:

MAY you have all these TODAY'S & EVERYDAY...........

This is my wish to all of you, your family -

So my superior ethnomathematical powers told me that this holiday is important in Nepal. So thanks to Google, I found out why I received such kind wishes see:

So to all my Nepali friends a good holiday and best wishes for a very, very Happy Vijaya Dashami!

Feedback from Saturday

Aloha, Dr. Orey -

"My" group of 9 students attended your afternoon session of Ethnomathematics, some without much enthusiasm for the subject. I appreciated your patience and versatility as an instructor, and your obvious interest in each of the girls present.

I hope to be apresenter at this conference next year; your example was an inspiration to me. Plus, I just love numbers. I also have enjoyed visiting your webpages. We are fortunate to have an educator like you in our community.

Best wishes from JN,
Senior Research Associate at a cool place over in Davis who was really kind to allow her to hang with us
