The news about perfect numbers turned out to be better than expected: not only was a 45th Mersenne prime found, but also a 46th !!
Of course, that means we now have two new perfect numbers. See http://www.mersenne.org for further updates. (see below to review the meaning of perfect number and Mersenne prime).
Verifications have been completed. The team will soon send out a press release with more details—including identification of the newly found numbers. But you are among the first to know!
