No on 8 Rally at the Capitol
1:00-4:00 PM
Tomorrow's rally at the Capitol was the brainchild of a new group of marriage equality activists from the East Bay - Californians Against 8.
Marriage Equality organizations and leaders from across the Sacramento area and the Bay Area have joined in to contribute organizational skills, help with safety and to provide speakers.
Our very own MEUSA leaders Dr. Davina Kotulski and Molly McKay will be speaking tomorrow, as well as Rev. Lindi Ramsden and Steve Hansen from here in Sacramento, along with many others.
Please come to this rally well-prepared:
1. Wear comfortable shoes.
2. Bring your own bottled water.
3. Please bring cameras and video cameras if you have them.
4. The rally is scheduled to end at 4:00 PM. However, if you intend to stay after nightfall, be sure to bring glow sticks or flashlights - NO lighters or candles are allowed on the Capitol grounds.
5. Please dress children warmly and keep them close to you at all times - this is going to be a big crowd - plan accordingly.
6. It might be best to leave your dogs at home.
7. Have a fully charged cell phone with you.
Once again, our rules of engagement are:
1. Peaceful Civility
2. Non-violence and mutual respect
3. Do NOT engage with the opposition, even if taunted
4. Walk away from any sign of conflict
5. Be responsible for each other - mutual caring
6. Call local law enforcement at any hint of things getting out of control - the CHP are the law enforcement body in charge of the Capitol and the Capitol grounds
7. Please use available garbage cans - don't trash our Capitol grounds.
8. PLease do NOT drive around the Capitol grounds honking - there are many Senior homes in the area
This is going to be a statement to California and the rest of the nation - we'll see you tomorrow...
