God is Punishing Elkgrove: 2 Small Earthquakes Hit Sac County

Two small earthquakes hit Sacramento County in the past 24 hours, according to the U.S. Geological Survey website. The quakes' epicenter was just south of the community of Hood, just southwest of Elk Grove, in the waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The first quake, measured at 2.5 magnitude, struck just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. The other, smaller quake -- at 2.1 magnitude -- was reported at 6:43 a.m. Wednesday. So far, there are no reports of any damage or injuries.According to geologists, the two earthquakes were 16 miles below the surface and 12 million years in the making."Very rarely do we have any in the Central Valley because it's just not an area of a lot of faulting … very soft sediment that tends to compress without much violence to them," state geologist Dr. John Parrish said.
