Via SacBee: Arden Arcade cityhood faces growing opponent clout

After nearly five years of pushing to incorporate Arden Arcade – a 100,000-person community in Sacramento County – cityhood supporters are just weeks away from a vote on the issue.
While incorporation backers overcame bureaucratic hurdles, funding problems and organizational issues just to get this far, now they must contend with an influential group of opponents if they are going to win over voters and break from the county.

Sheriff John McGinness, in an interview with The Bee on Friday, said he recommends that residents vote against Measure D, the ballot measure to incorporate Arden Arcade. McGinness joins former Sheriff Lou Blanas, developer Mark Friedman, former Reagan White House staffer Doug Elmets, political consultant Jeff Raimundo, and other area players who oppose cityhood.
