Tom Lasseter, McClatchy Newspapers: "Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, a move that dramatically highlighted both the plight of those who speak out against the authoritarian government in Beijing and the lengths to which it goes to silence them. The Nobel committee made clear in its announcement of the award that by giving it to Liu, currently serving an 11-year sentence on subversion charges, it intended to highlight human rights problems and political repression in China."
