Quote of the Day:

“I want to put something out there to those talking heads who are still busy inciting this. Whatever comes down from this it’s on your hands. When you say; “wipe ‘em out”, and when you sort of gently suggest that people do stuff, let me tell you about people who tell you do stuff. You notice, THEY’RE not doing it. The people who tell you to go do stuff, they’re at home, they’re not going to jail. If you get caught throwing a brick, shooting somebody, your behind is going to jail, and your family’s going to suffer. And by the way, you know we’ve seen what happens when people listen to other people. Here we saw planes go into the buildings because they listened to someone who said; “Go and do this”. This is the same thing, watch yourselves talking heads, because this is dangerous.”
- Whoopi Goldberg

and now for something completely different

Duck Story

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet.

How can you be so sure?" she protested.

"I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever.

As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his frontpaws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room.

A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said,"I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

Why the President's Next Big Thing Should Be Jobs

Robert Reich, "Few presidents get a second honeymoon of their own making. (George W. got one when terrorists attacked the United States.) Barack Obama's victory on health care reform has breathed new life into his administration, recharged the Democratic base, and given the rest of America a sense of someone who fights for average working people. The question now is: What does he do with his second honeymoon?"

Anti-HCR Teabagger Mike Vanderboegh Is On Government-Paid Disability

Alabama "militiaman" and popular teabagger blogger Mike Vanderboegh calls for his followers to smash Democratic offices. Some are blaming him for the incidents that have already occurred.
"To all modern Sons of Liberty: THIS is your time. Break their windows. Break them NOW. If you wish to send a message that Pelosi and her party [that they] cannot fail to hear, break their windows. Break them NOW. Break them and run to break again. Break them under cover of night. Break them in broad daylight. Break them and await arrest in willful, principled civil disobedience. Break them with rocks. Break them with slingshots. Break them with baseball bats. But BREAK THEM."
Man, he REALLY doesn't want the federal government helping those in need, does he? Oh, except when that person in need is Mike Vanderboegh.
Vanderboegh said he once worked as a warehouse manager but now lives on government disability checks. He said he receives $1,300 a month because of his congestive heart failure, diabetes and hypertension. He has private health insurance through his wife, who works for a company that sells forklift products. Born in Michigan and raised in Ohio, Vanderboegh said he was not always a libertarian. He once was active in the Young Socialist Alliance and the Progressive Labor Party. “In my youth, I was a communist,” he said. But in the mid-1970s, Vanderboegh read Friedrich von Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom,” among other books, and had an epiphany. “From that point on, I could never take Marxism-Leninism seriously again,” Vanderboegh said.

The Wingers Who Cried Wolf

Listening to right-wing talk radio on the day after Congress passed health care reform, Bill O'Reilly was stunned. To him, the hosts and the callers sounded "crazed" as they shrieked about "the end of the world, we're socialist now, we have to take the country back." Maybe the Fox News host hasn't been listening, but there has been plenty of crazy in the air now for many months on his network and elsewhere on the airwaves.

From the Courage Campaign:

Dear Daniel --

They've lost it. They are out of touch. And they must be stopped.

Meg Whitman, Steve Poizner, Carly Fiorina, Tom Campbell, and the rest of the California Republican Party want to kill health care reform. And you're the only one that can stop them.

Last night, the House passed the final portion of the most far-reaching health care reform since Medicare, making care more affordable for millions of Californians and protecting us from losing our coverage when we need it the most. While we must keep working to achieve our goal of a single-payer system, it's an important step in the right direction.

While progressives celebrate the victory and start working to improve the bill, California Republicans have joined the ugly teabagger mob in trying to kill reform. Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner are both calling the health care bill unconstitutional -- they want the state to sue the federal government to stop President Obama's effort to cover the 25% of Californians who currently lack health insurance.

Carly Fiorina and Tom Campbell want to replace Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate so they can repeal health care reform. Fiorina is even circulating her own petition asking Californians to support repeal.

They must be stopped. Show California that you reject Republican efforts to repeal the President's health care reform. Add your name to the Courage Campaign's letter denouncing Republican plans to roll back affordable coverage and leave us at the mercy of the greedy insurance companies::

This is just the beginning. We are going get some answers to the questions we have about California Republicans' plans to repeal health care reform:

· Does Meg Whitman think it is unconstitutional to expand access to Medi-Cal?

· Does Steve Poizner think it is unconstitutional to prevent insurers from denying coverage to children?

· Does Tom Campbell want to repeal your right to keep your health care coverage if you get sick?

· Does Carly Fiorina want to repeal tax credits to help the middle class afford insurance??

That's exactly what California Republicans want to do in 2010. Republicans in the State Senate are even pushing a teabagger-inspired constitutional amendment that would not only block the health care reform bill from being implemented in California, but would prevent us from ever creating a state single-payer system.

Stop them from destroying health care reform. Reject the Republican repeal plan by adding your name to the Courage Campaign's letter. Click here to take a stand against the teabaggers leading the California Republican Party:

Together we will fight these right-wingers and ensure that health care reform works for all Californians.
