Captain’s Blog Stardate 02.19.2011 - Rio de Janiero

After a pleasant evening at a sidewalk cafe, and a short walk to a great Resturante Arabi on Avenida Atlântica, was back in bed by midnight… tho my body argued for awhile I eventually went to sleep and woke up about 8am. Luis, after a grueling week, had stayed home so just Vitor & I went to dinner; we sat next to a great couple form Malibu, California. They were finishing a trip by ship that took them from LA to Santos via the Horn. And is the custom in Brasil, you soon start to talk to people at the next table… They had been in Brasil for the last month… they were great fun, and it was fun helping them decide what to do for their last day in Rio. They were especially interested in hearing music.

Vitor suggested, and I liked his way of ordering the day.
1. Sunset from the Pão de Açúcar
2. A stroll around Lapa (and he wrote down a couple of great clubs to listen to music
3. Some restaurants that they might like as well

This morning I woke up with L & V, as they prepared to head out to meet the architect who is helping them with their new apartment about 8 blocks away. They were going out afterwards to buy things – lamps, lights, door knobs, etc… I elected to stay in and rest until they returned when we will all go to the beach, during temperature maximum…

Coming to Copacabana, and staying with V & L, has helped me calm down and relax. A few walks around the neighborhood, helped… the wonderful crowds, with all the crazy diversity, sitting out as the sea breeze comes and watching people walk by , is what makes it fun here… good people, good food good conversation.
